Reading - We are learning:
- to use initial letter and final letter sounds to solve unfamiliar
words - to segment and blend sounds of one syllable
words - to use word family (chunks) to solve unfamiliar words
- to develop a bank of significant and high frequency words
- to touch print with finger while reading when needed
- to retell important information and ideas of what we have read
- to use phrasing to make our reading sound smooth and expressive, like talking
Writing - We are learning:
- to think of a topic to write about
- to use spaces between
words - to begin a new sentence and names with an uppercase
letter - to use mostly lowercase letters correctly in words
- to add at least three details that relate to a topic
- to use punctuation in our stories
- to spell majority of class sight words correctly

- to use a five frame and a ten frame
- to use the counting on strategy

You And Your World - We are learning:
- how we each play a part in creating a safe and positive learning
environment in our classroom community - classroom routines and
expectations and appropriate assembly conduct - about Character
Education - Citizenship, Courtesy and Compassion - safety - school and
playground, bus, personal, fire and Halloween - personal hygiene
(hand washing, the purpose of soap and coughing/sneezing etiquette)
We have also covered the themes of Fall, pumpkin life cycle, and Thanksgiving. Still to come are hibernation, migration and adaptation and Halloween.
